VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

GET MORE INVOLVED IN PROTECTING THE LOCUST FORK RIVER!

The Friends of the Locust Fork River is an all-volunteer organization.  We need your help to continue to protect the river and educate more people about this great asset to our community.  Below is a brief description of each of our working groups.  Find one that fits your interest and sign up to get more involved!

Education Working Group
The primary focus of our Education Working Group is to teach children across the watershed about the river and its ecosystem.  We do this by working with teachers in local schools, participating in school and community sponsored education activities, and putting on our annual Day on the River children’s education event each year.

Conservation Working Group
The Conservation Working Group acts as a watchdog for the river and keeps FLFR connected to broader conservation efforts across the state that might impact our river.  Pollution such as runoff from coal mines and construction sites, as well as discharges from wastewater treatment plants and industry can be a major threat to clean water in the river if laws like the Clean Water Act are not followed properly.  This group helps monitor threats such as these.

Recreation Working Group
The Recreation Working Group is the group that plans and leads our monthly outings on the Locust Fork River and its surrounding watershed.  One of the best ways to help people become familiar with the river and learn to love it like we do is to get them out into nature and on the river.  This group also helps put on the two Locust Fork Canoe and Kayak races in February and March.  If you love the outdoors, you will love this group!

Outreach Working Group
The Outreach Working Group helps FLFR get our message and information out to the general public.  This group maintains our website and designs our newsletter.  They are currently looking for some new, social network savvy folks who might help give FLFR a better presence on the internet through Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc…  This group also helps write press releases and keep FLFR in the news.
