Cindy Lowry, board member, played as a kid on the Locust Fork, and now heads the Alabama Rivers Alliance, earning awards for her wide contributions to Alabama.

Cindy Lowry is the Executive Director of the Alabama Rivers Alliance, a statewide network of groups working to protect and restore all of Alabama’s water resources through building partnerships, empowering citizens, and advocating for sound water policy and enforcement.  Cindy was born and raised in Oneonta, Alabama.  She received her BS degree in Wildlife Science from Auburn University and her Masters of Public Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  The focus of her master’s’ thesis was citizen participation in public policy.  Cindy has over 15 years of work experience in the conservation nonprofit sector. She joined the staff of the Alabama Rivers Alliance in 2005 and became the Executive Director in 2007.   In 2012, Cindy was awarded a “Wonderful Outstanding Woman” award from the Metro Birmingham Branch of the NAACP, and in 2016 she was named one of the “Women Shaping the State” by Al.com.  Cindy also currently serves as President of the Board of Directors for Alabama Arise and is a long time member of the FLFR board.
