Maria Brindle loves swimming in the river, and is the Outings Coordinator. She enjoys her household, garden, birds, cats, and dog and is nurtured by the beauty of nature in Blount County.

Maria and Alden Brindle live in a solar powered, strawbale house walking distance from the Locust Fork River, and delight in hiking, swimming and meditating by the water. “It is an amazing river, constantly changing, sometimes flowing like a torrent and other times flowing gently towards the gulf.” They joined FLFR in 2003 and ever since have volunteered at Kids’ Day on the River and doing clean-ups. In 2015  Maria got certified by AWW and began testing monthly for bacteria at two sites on the river. These data are sent to and Alabama Water Watch. Being a volunteer and member of FLFR gives Maria the opportunity to be outdoors with friends and like-minded people who enjoy the river as much as she does. Maria looks forward to the easy canoe trip in April, Kids’ day in June, summer floats, and swimming every other day from June to mid-September. She likes to garden, lacto-ferment veggies, cook vegetarian meals, draw with colored pencils, read books and share her views at a monthly Book Club, care for the chickens, ducks, goose, and a cat, and taking long walks with Ringo the dog.
